"I must say it is a joy to deal with you and your folks. Stacy and I do not have a strong nautical background, and you and your team always go out of your way to make our experience very enjoyable. From having all the equipment ready, to giving friendly advice on the proper way to drive the boat and dock (especially dock), we could not ask for a better group of people. We are looking forward to many more happy days on the water."

Lake Murray Boat Club and West Marine to Donate “Light up the Lake” Kits
Free Glow Sticks Part of 4th of July Safety Kit
Irmo (Ballentine), SC—Hot weather, the Fourth of July fireworks and boating on Lake Murray are unmistakable signs that summer has officially arrived in the Midlands. Two local companies are hoping that this season, Lake Murray boaters will carry glow sticks on their boats along with their water toys, picnic baskets and fishing tackle.
For the second year, the Lake Murray Boat Club and West Marine have combined forces to reduce the number of night time boating accidents. The free Light up the Lake safety kits contain glow sticks, a whistle, a Department of Natural Resources safety handbook and a discount coupon from West Marine good toward the purchase of safety gear.
Boating accidents often occur after dark when boaters fail to pay proper attention to the working condition of their lights. At night, the ability to both see and be seen by other boaters is crucial, especially when waterways are crowded. In the event that navigation lights fail, the red, green, and white glow sticks can help a boater return home safely. Once the lights are cracked, they can be temporarily placed on a boat or held in the hand of a passenger so that the boat can return safely to shore where the navigation lights can be repaired.
A Boating Country Club ™ that offers its members unlimited use of a variety of boats as an alternative to boat ownership, the Lake Murray Boat Club is the distribution site for Light up the Lake safety kits. “At Lake Murray Boat Club, we are committed to boating education and safety,” said club owner Jon Dukes. “I first became aware of the glow sticks during an annual vessel safety check and our distribution of the Light up the Lake safety kits are our contribution to making Lake Murray safer this holiday season,” he added.
John Willmon is the store manager at West Marine, a full-service boat and nautical supplies store located in Dutch Square Mall. He stated that West Marine’s continued participation in the safety kit giveaway reflects the company’s concern for its customers. “Because we are all boaters, we want to make sure that everyone is safe on the water,” said Willmon.
This year, the 2012 4th of July Celebration on Lake Murray will be held Saturday, June 30. The Light up the Lake safety kits will be distributed June 23 through July 4 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from the office or dock at the Lake Murray Boat Club, Lake Murray Marina, 1600 Marina Road, Irmo, SC 29063. The office will be closed Monday, June 25.
